Late at night after work, early on a Sunday, or at the end of a day out in the Waikato: daytime-only locksmiths have often finished for the day by then. Locksmith & Security Solutions offers 24/7 Emergency Callouts, so we can come to your car and make a working key whatever the hour, with no tow to the dealer.

What to do first

  • Retrace your steps, and check pockets, bags, the car's surroundings and anywhere you've been.

  • Check for a spareat home or with family.

  • If you think the keys were stolen, report it to the police, because someone may have both your keys and your address or rego.

  • Call 0800 562 571with the make, model, year and location of the vehicle.

How we make a key when all keys are lost

With no key to copy, we create a new one from the vehicle. We work out the key code, cut a new blade on site, then connect our diagnostic equipment to program the transponder chip or smart key to your car's immobiliser. The car starts and drives as normal, usually in one visit.

Delete the lost keys

This is a step many people don't know about. When we program the new key, we can remove the lost keys from the car's memory, so even if someone finds them, they won't start the car. If the keys were stolen, we strongly recommend it.

Proof of ownership

For your protection, we ask for proof that the vehicle is yours, such as registration papers matching your photo ID, before we make a key. If those documents are locked in the car, we can open it first and check them there.

Cars, utes and vans we cover

We make keys for all makes of cars and motorbikes, and anything with a key, plus many Japanese imports. If your vehicle has a dealer-only system, we'll tell you when you call.

Lost keys anywhere in the Waikato

Our vans cover all of Hamilton plus Te Awamutu, Cambridge, Huntly, Ngāruawāhia, Morrinsville, Raglan, Ōtorohanga, Te Kūiti and beyond. Tell us exactly where the car is, whether that's a driveway, car park level or roadside, and you'll get an honest arrival time and upfront pricing before we set off.

Lost keys and a lockout at the same time

If the keys went missing with the car locked, we deal with both in one callout: we open the vehicle without damage, check the paperwork inside, then make and program the new key. You don't need a separate service for each step.

Make sure it doesn't happen again

Once you're back on the road, a few simple habits help. Keep a spare key somewhere safe at home, not in the car. Note your rego and key details somewhere you can find them. Put a tag with your phone number (but not your address) on the key ring. If your car uses a smart key, keep the spare away from the front door so it can't be relayed. Replace the remote battery when the range starts dropping, before it dies. And if a family member or staff member regularly uses the vehicle, a second programmed key is usually worth it. We can cut and program spares at the same visit as your replacement, so you leave with two working keys and a fresh start.

FAQ

Can you make a car key if I've lost all of them?

Yes. For most vehicles we generate a new key from the car, cut it on site and program it to the immobiliser.

Can the lost keys still start my car?

Not if we delete them. When we program your new key, we can remove the lost keys from the car's system.

Can you come out at night or on the weekend?

Yes. We run 24/7 Emergency Callouts across Hamilton and the Waikato.

Do I need to tow my car to the dealer?

No. We bring the cutting and programming equipment to your car.

What do I need to prove it's my car?

Registration papers and matching photo ID. If they're inside the car, we can open it first.

How long does it take?

Most all-keys-lost jobs are finished in one visit once we're with the vehicle.

Should I get a spare made at the same time?

Yes, we recommend it. A second key made at the same visit saves a repeat of this situation.
