Master Key Systems HamiltonDesigned, installed and documented by an MLAA locksmith
One key per person, opening only the doors they need. Restricted keys that can't be copied without your written OK. Built for Hamilton and Waikato businesses, schools, rentals and body corporates.
What is a master key system?
A master key system is a planned set of locks and keys where different keys open different groups of doors. Staff get a key that opens only their own office or area. Supervisors get a sub-master for their floor or department. The owner or manager holds a grand master that opens everything. Instead of a ring of 20 keys, everyone carries one.
We map out who needs access to what, then build the system to match. Every lock and every key is recorded in a keying schedule that you own, so you always know which key opens which door.
Who we build master key systems for in Hamilton
- Offices, shops and warehouses with staff who need different access levels
- Schools, early childhood centres and churches
- Body corporates, apartment blocks and rental property managers
- Medical, dental and professional practices
- Farms, workshops and industrial sites across the Waikato
Restricted key systems: stop unauthorised copies
A master key system is only as secure as its keys. On a restricted profile, keys can only be cut by us, and only with signed authorisation from the people you nominate. A staff member can't take a key to a hardware store and copy it. You get a key register showing how many keys exist and who holds each one.
Often we can convert your existing locks by changing the cylinders, so you keep your current door hardware.
Lost a master key, or staff left with keys?
If a key goes missing or someone leaves without handing theirs back, we can re-pin the affected cylinders so the old key stops working, then issue new keys and update your schedule. That's usually far less work than replacing every lock.
Access control alongside your keys
Many sites mix keys with keypad, card or fob access on main entrances. We can set this up together with your master key system, so the front door runs on fobs while internal doors, cabinets and padlocks stay on your keyed system.
How we set up your system
- Site visit: we walk the building with you and list every door, gate, cabinet and padlock.
- Key plan: we design the access levels with you, from grand master down to individual keys.
- Install: cylinders are pinned and fitted, usually around your trading hours.
- Handover: you get your keys, the keying schedule and the authorisation rules for extra keys.
Every job is quoted before we start.

Master key system FAQs
Can you add to an existing master key system?
Often yes. Bring us a key or give us the system details and we'll tell you whether it can be extended, or whether a new system makes more sense.
Can a master key system use my current locks?
In many cases. Most quality commercial locks just need new cylinders.
Who can order extra keys on a restricted system?
Only the people you nominate in writing. We check the authorisation before cutting any key.
Do you cover towns outside Hamilton?
Yes, including Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Huntly, Morrinsville, Matamata, Tokoroa and the rest of the Waikato.
