Spare Car Keys Hamilton
The simplest time to get a second car key is while you still have a working one. We cut and program a matching spare at your car or our Glenview shop — for another driver, the glovebox, or the house.

Why get a spare before you need one
Most Hamilton cars we see arrive with a single working key. That works until a blade cracks on a Hilux, a flip key dies in a supermarket car park, or a smart fob suddenly isn't detected. Making a spare while the working key is still in your hand is the simplest version of this job.
Waiting until every key is gone turns it into an all-keys-lost job — still something we do every week, but with more steps: generating the key from the vehicle, checking ownership carefully, and often wiping lost keys from the immobiliser.
What we can make as a spare
Plain metal keys
Older vehicles without an immobiliser. We cut a matching blade from your working key or the code.
Transponder (chip) keys
Most cars since the mid-1990s. We cut the blade and program the chip so the spare starts the car — a plain copy of the blade alone will not.
Remote and flip keys
Blade plus lock/unlock buttons in one head. We cut, pair the remote and program the chip. See also key fob replacement.
Smart / push-start keys
Proximity fobs for keyless cars, including the emergency blade inside. More on smart keys Hamilton.
How a spare key job works
Most spare jobs are done in a single visit. You keep the original; the new one matches it.
- Call or WhatsApp with make, model and year (rego helps) and confirm you still have a working key.
- We confirm we can do your car and give an upfront quote before anyone travels.
- On site we check ownership — photo ID plus registration or purchase papers.
- We cut and program the spare at the car or at our Glenview shop.
- We test both keys with you — start, lock, unlock — before we leave.
Makes we cover
Toyota, Mazda, Nissan, Honda, Suzuki, Mitsubishi, Ford, Holden, Hyundai, Kia, Subaru and other common Waikato makes, plus many Japanese imports. Some late-model European systems are dealer-only — we'll say so on the phone.
Brand pages: Toyota · Mazda · Nissan · Honda.

Spare vs replacement vs all-keys-lost
- Spare — you still have a working key; we add another. Simplest job.
- Replacement — a worn, broken or unreliable key while you may still have another. See car key replacement Hamilton.
- All keys lost — nothing left that starts the car. See lost car keys Hamilton.
Suburbs and towns
From Glenview we cover every Hamilton suburb — Rototuna, Flagstaff, Te Rapa, Frankton, Dinsdale, Nawton, Hillcrest, Chartwell, Fairfield, Melville, Claudelands and the CBD — plus Cambridge, Te Awamutu, Ngāruawāhia, Huntly, Morrinsville, Matamata, Raglan and towns across the Waikato.

- Local Glenview shop plus mobile vans
- Upfront quote — no prices published because every make/year differs
- Afterpay and insurance paperwork on request
Household and fleet spares
Keep one key on your everyday set and one at home (or with another driver). For work utes and fleet vans, a labelled office spare stops a whole crew being stuck when someone's key goes missing on a job site in Te Rapa or a farm outside Cambridge.
Couriers, tradies and property managers around Hamilton often book two or three matching keys in one visit so every driver has a coded key that starts the same vehicle.
What to have ready
- Make, model and year (rego helps)
- Confirmation you still have a working key
- Where the vehicle is (or that you will bring it to Glenview)
- Photo ID and registration or purchase papers for the ownership check
We do not publish prices on this page. A 2008 Corolla spare and a 2022 CX-5 smart spare are different jobs. You get an upfront quote for your exact car before we start.
Afterpay and insurance
Afterpay is available. If keys were stolen, comprehensive policies sometimes cover replacement — we can provide the quote and paperwork your insurer asks for. WINZ quotes are available on request.
